Mission Statement

The Kiser Senior Center’s primary mission is to be a focal point in the community with services that support senior adults and promote the health, emotional, social, and intellectual well-being of senior adults living in the community. Through planned programs and activities, participants are offered enriching opportunities in a safe, fulfilling environment for seniors.

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Kiser Senior Center is to provide information and services for the senior community of Bessemer City, including opportunities for meaningful leisure and recreational activities, the availability of persons with whom you can share your concerns, and a place of fellowship and understanding. The Kiser Senior Center is made possible through the generous contribution from Dr. Glen A. Kiser and his wife, Muriel C. Kiser.

Senior Citizens

There are no annual fees or dues. Most classes cost a minimal fee, usually a few dollars.

The “Senior Moments” newsletter is published monthly, includes a calendar and lists the classes and other special programs for the month. The newsletter may be downloaded by clicking on the link found on the Kiser Senior Center page of this website (left column). It is also available at the center or by email. Programs

img_1613The goal of the Kiser Senior Center is to enhance the physical and social well-being of adults 50 years and older. Programs are planned to promote the independence of senior adults. Programs are designed to meet the interest and needs of seniors of every age, whether you are 50 and looking to get in shape, or 90 and hoping for a safe place to join friends in a game of cards or social time.

Computers are available to “surf” the internet, fitness equipment is available with no fee for use. Other programs are offered at minimal costs, such as Yoga, Line Dance, basket-weaving, computer training and more.

Programs in such topics as Fall Prevention, Balance, Dementia Awareness, Living with Diabetes and many more are scheduled at intervals during the year.

Among the many programs offered at our facilities is the Gaston Adult Nutrition Program. Anyone Gaston County resident 60 years and older is invited to join the Bessemer City Group Meal Site for lunch. The program is on site at our Community Building, located at 220 South 14th Street, Bessemer City. To apply call Gaston County Department of Social Services at 704-862-7540.
