November 2015 Work Session Meeting Minutes

The Bessemer City Council met for a work session on Tuesday, November 25th, 2015 at 3:30PM in the Conference room in the Bessemer City Police Department. Proper notice was given.

Call to Order
Mayor Becky Smith called the meeting to order and thanked everyone for attending.

Members Present
Mayor: Becky Smith. Council Members: Dan Boling, Kay McCathen, Joe Will, Howard Jones, Alfred Carpenter, and Donnie Griffin were all present. Also present was City Manager, James Inman, and department heads.

Department Head Reports
Public Works- Jamie Ramsey, Public Works Director, was absent.
Water- Assistant Public Works Director, Melinda Beard, was absent.
Finance- Finance Director, Diane Jenkins, was absent.
Parks and Recreation- Parks and Recreation Director, JoD Franklin, reported on the upcoming Christmas Parade, Christmas in the City Event and the 2nd Annual Community Tree Lighting.
Planning/Zoning- City Planner, Jeffrey Kirchner, reported on the Edgewood Road motel hearing.
Police/Code Enforcement- Police Chief, Tom Ellis, reported on a police chase that took officers to Charlotte. Chief Ellis also reported on continued issues with crime and a particular business in the community.
Economic Development/Clerk/HR- Economic Development Officer/Human Resources Officer/City Clerk, Joshua Ross, reminded Council about the staff Thanksgiving Lunch and the Staff Christmas Party.

City Manager’s Report
City Manager, James Inman, reported on the Community Center Project, Pennsylvania Avenue Streetscape Project, and the Sewer System Improvements Project. Mr. Inman updated Council on each project’s status and answered questions.

Mayor Smith opened the floor for public comment. There was none.

Council General Discussion
Mayor Smith opened the floor for Council general discussion. There was none.

Being no further business to come before the board, the meeting was adjourned at 4:15PM by motion of Alfred Carpenter and unanimous vote.
