Have you heard of Juneteenth? If not don’t fret, just keep reading! Juneteenth was a day of emancipation/freedom for thousands living in bondage in Galveston, Texas in 1865. Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19th. Get it? June + Nineteenth = Juneteenth. Creative, huh? Specifically, this holiday marks the anniversary of when Texas learned that President Lincoln had declared slavery illegal. The City of Bessemer City will host our 5th Annual Juneteenth Festival in Centennial Park on Friday, June 16th, 2023 from 6:00 – 9:00 PM.
