WHY DO WE JUNETEENTH:

Have you heard of Juneteenth? If not don’t fret, just keep reading! Juneteenth was a day of emancipation/freedom for thousands living in bondage in Galveston, Texas in 1865. Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19th. Get it? June + Nineteenth = Juneteenth. Creative, huh? Specifically, this holiday marks the anniversary of when Texas learned that President Lincoln had declared slavery illegal. The City of Bessemer City will host our 6^th Annual Juneteenth Festival in Centennial Park on Friday, June 14^th, 2024 from 6:00 – 10:00 PM.
