*GASTON COUNTY, N.C. – Today, the North Carolina Department of Agriculture issued a burning ban that takes effect at 5 p.m. Sunday due to hazardous forest fire conditions.

The burning ban covers 14 North Carolina counties, including Gaston County. In accordance with the North Carolina Fire Prevention Code, Section 307, Gaston County Fire Marshal Scott Hunter has also prohibited any open burning in Gaston County (areas within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling) until hazardous fire conditions improve and the statewide burning ban is lifted.

This ban does not apply to fires in grills and appliances specifically designed for cooking food for personal consumption so long as the cooking fire is confined with an enclosure.

Please contact the Gaston County Office of Emergency Management and Fire Services at (704) 866-3350 for any questions regarding the statewide burning ban.
