USDA RD Participates in Groundbreaking at Bessemer City Water Treatment Plant

 

BESSEMER CITY, N.C., September 1, 2022 – USDA Rural Development team members participated in a groundbreaking ceremony at the new Bessemer City Water Treatment Plant today.

Rural Development is investing a $9 million in loans and grants ($4,990,500 loan; $4,065,000 grant) to upgrade the water treatment plant improve the water and sewer system.

The improvements will consist of replacement of the flash mixers, flocculator, chemical storage tank, raw water intake and rehabilitation of the chemical feed building and high service pump station.

The proposed project will also construct approximately 2.3 thousand linear feet of new 8-inch gravity sewer lines which will including approximately 12 new manholes as well as approximately 1.2 thousand liner feet of new 6-inch water lines that will loop existing system dead ends.

“Rural Development is proud of our ongoing relationship with Bessemer City and its rural community,” said Rural Development State Director Reginald Speight. “This investment is a continuation of our partnership in this growing corner of our state. This water treatment plant is the next chapter of our relationship after the beautiful Stinger Park.”
