Bessemer City Encourages Continued Water Conservation as Stage 2 Measures May Become Necessary
BESSEMER CITY, N.C. — Bessemer City is currently under Stage 1: Voluntary Water Conservation as dry weather conditions continue to impact the area.
At this time, Stage 2 water conservation measures have not been implemented. However, if meaningful precipitation is not received in the coming weeks and drought conditions continue, the City may need to move from Stage 1 to Stage 2 under the City’s Water Shortage Conservation Program.
The purpose of this notice is to make residents, businesses, and utility customers aware of what may be coming if conditions do not improve. A move to Stage 2 would include more formal restrictions on non-essential water use. These restrictions may include limitations on outdoor watering, vehicle washing, filling or refilling pools, washing down sidewalks or driveways, operating ornamental fountains, and other water uses that are not necessary for public health, safety, or essential operations.
Again, Bessemer City is not currently in Stage 2 as of July 6, 2026. If Stage 2 becomes necessary, the City will issue an official notice with the effective date, specific requirements, and any applicable restrictions.
In the meantime, the City strongly encourages all customers to continue conserving water whenever possible. Customers can help by limiting outdoor watering, avoiding unnecessary washing of paved surfaces, reducing vehicle washing, repairing leaks quickly, and using dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads.
The City will continue to monitor water supply levels, water demand, weather conditions, and regional drought conditions closely.
Additional updates will be provided as conditions change.
