General Statement of Duties
The City of Bessemer City is seeking responsible, dependable, and highly motivated individuals to join our Parks and Recreation Department as Seasonal Lifeguards. This position performs critical work in ensuring the safety of patrons at the City’s swimming pool by monitoring activities, enforcing pool rules, and responding quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
Seasonal Lifeguards are responsible for maintaining a safe and welcoming aquatic environment for all guests. Duties include supervising swimmers, preventing unsafe behaviors, administering first aid and CPR as needed, conducting routine safety checks, and assisting with general pool maintenance and cleanliness.
Qualified candidates must possess current Lifeguard Certification, CPR/AED Certification, and First Aid Certification (or be able to obtain prior to employment). Strong communication skills, attentiveness, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential. Applicants must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays throughout the summer season.
This is a seasonal position.
