Downtown Intersections Study

Bessemer City has been working with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) for 18 months to study downtown intersection improvements. Virginia Avenue is a State-maintained road and is part of NCDOT’s jurisdiction.
On Monday, June 27, 2022, NCDOT installed temporary stop signs at the corner of 12th Street and Virginia Avenue. NCDOT will assess this 4-way stop study.
NCDOT will continue to study this intersection. Other future study areas downtown include:
- 14th Street and Virginia Avenue
- 13th Street and Virginia Avenue
- 13th Street and Highway 161
