Our Community Vision
Bessemer City is a place that celebrates its family-oriented, small town character especially through its heart, a thriving central business district. We seek to be a safe, well-maintained community, where public utilities are dependable and available to support new growth.
We support a strong educational system and welcome a broad range of businesses and industries as fundamental to building a great community and in providing opportunities to our citizens.
Lunch and Activities for Seniors
The Gaston Adult Nutrition Program invites anyone who is 60 years old or older and a Gaston County resident to join the Bessemer City Group Meal site for lunch. A nutritious lunchtime meal and daily activities that
are fun and informational are offered everyday Monday – Friday beginning at 10:45 AM at the Bessemer City Community Building, 220 N. 14th Street, Bessemer City. To apply, call Gaston County Department of Social Services, Adult Services Division at 704 862-7540.
Festival Fun
Visitors enjoyed two days of fun at the 22nd annual Down Home Festival. Friday night was Family Fun Night and “Summerdaze” was featured at the Street Dance on Virginia Avenue. A variety of food vendors sold concessions, including pizza, BBQ, hotdogs, and more. The evening ended with a fireworks display by Hale Artificer. Rides and amusements were also open on Friday night. Saturday festivities included entertainment on two stages, amusement rides, the Miss Down Home Festival Queen Pageant, cornhole tournament, and more. Learn More
The Strategic Vision Plan

The values and vision are based on the strategic visioning process and inventory of community assets and challenges conducted by the city in 2008. The plan also outlines Bessemer City’s goals for achieving its vision. The Strategic Vision Plan is the first part of a six-part community planning process undertaken by Bessemer City beginning in 2008.
